Well, here we are safely in our little house in the beautiful city of Denver, Colorado. Our Frontier Airlines flight landed right on time yesterday afternoon after a wonderful two hour flight. I must admit that the word "wonderful" is very nuanced in this situation as there were some definite upsides and downsides. On the upside the service by the St. Louis based crew were professional, cheerful and very accommodating. We had no problems at all. The plane took off and landed on time and all that kind of stuff was great. On the downside I have to say that the seats on the plane were a bit on the rugged side. They were hard and stiff. The upper part of the seat around my neck seemed a bit more torturous than on other planes, and even on other Frontier flights. One interesting feature of our flight was that while I had a confirmed reservation, Lisa was on stand-by. (She gets a friends-and-family deal.) Our flight was packed. My seat was way up front in the third row. I didn't know for sure if Lisa was going to make the flight until I saw here walk on the plane right when they were closing the door. As she passed by me she gave me a quick kiss and headed back to her seat all the way in the rear of the plane. I mean all the way back in the last seat in the last row!
I have to watch myself while we're here. Lisa, being a Denver native (a rare thing on its own) is used to the altitude and the dry conditions. I'm very much a sea level kind of guy now, so I have to drink a lot of water and not over exert myself too much, especially early on. Our only tasks on our first day here is to go to the grocery store. Otherwise we are going to just hang out.
One of the very fun aspects of this trip is that we will be here during the Super Bowl where, unless you have been living in a cave, you know that the Denver Broncos are the AFC representatives. Blue and orange are the colors of prominence everywhere and unless you have a death wish your allegiance to those dastardly Seattle Seahawks would be kept in strict secrecy.
So, here we are in Denver. We're glad we're here. And if I have one major goal over these next two months it is to finally finish the book, The Gentleman Boss, a biography of Chester Arthur, the 21st President of the United States. I've been working on it for almost two years. Lisa will be neck deep into accounting work.
